Northwest Implants and Periodontics

Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality of dental implant and periodontal care in a warm and caring environment.

On your first visit to our office you will be given a thorough examination. Afterwards, we will explain our findings and your options for treatment including the cost of treatment. We will allow extra time to be sure all your questions are answered. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to make a decision that works well for you.

There are times when a toothache or sore gums may prompt you to visit to the dentist, but tooth decay and gum disease can have symptoms that are not as obvious as pain or discomfort, requiring an evaluation by a dentist to discover. Regular dental visits can help keep teeth clean and provide any necessary treatment while decay and gum disease are in their early stages.

Fish and meat are great sources of phosphorus, which is an important nutrient in keeping tooth enamel healthy, but if you do not eat much meat or no meat at all, some plant-based options are nuts, edamame, tofu, and legumes.

If you have a cough or sore throat, cough drops can help soothe pain or scratchiness, but it is important to be mindful of their sugar content when you use them. Many lozenges contain 3 to 4 grams of sugar per drop (like many hard candies), so using several cough drops throughout the day can expose your teeth to sugar for an extended period of time, increasing your risk of tooth decay.

At the end of a busy day, it can be tempting to skip our usual nighttime routine, but when we skip brushing our teeth, the bacteria in our mouths start to break down the tooth enamel, increasing our risk of cavities. Also, the longer plaque sits on the teeth increases the likelihood that it will turn into tartar, which cannot be removed by a toothbrush.

A human has 32 adult teeth including their wisdom teeth, but do you know how many teeth cats, dogs, and other animals have? Cats have 30 adult teeth, and dogs have 42 adult teeth, which is relatively close to the number of teeth humans have. However, there are animals that have a large number of teeth, such as crocodiles that have between 60 to 72 teeth and giant armadillos with up to 100 teeth.

Many goals that we set for the new year can benefit both your dental health and your overall health, such as drinking more water or incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet. Have you made any New Year's resolutions this year? If so, share your goals with us in the comments!

Winter is a popular time for snow sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, and as with every sport, there is a risk of injury. If you crack or chip a tooth while out on the slopes, it Is important to rinse your mouth with water, stop any bleeding, and seek treatment as soon as possible. If your tooth is cracked, you may not notice it right away, but pay attention to any sensitivity or tooth pain, especially while eating hot or cold foods or when you bite down.

Eggs are an extremely versatile food. They are great snacks, and you can easily add them to many meals for extra protein. Eggs also have nutrients that promote healthy teeth: phosphorus, vitamin D, and a little bit of calcium.
